I will be heading to Montreal next week. Flying out Tuesday morning and back Thursday evening. This morning I had the interesting experience of trying to navigate the corporate intranet and figure out how to book my flight and hotel using my brand new Travel & Expenses (T&E) credit card.
I reckon we have one of the worst intranets in the world. It is so bad that even when I know exactly what I want (a document that I know I've looked at before) it still takes me 10 minutes to find it – and sometimes I give up. It's just that opaque. Even when I use the search function, the default search is for people. Why the hell would I come to the intranet to search for people? I could just autocomplete in Outlook or use the company phone directory which is handily built into the phone.
Well, I did finally find a phone number for travel services and was able to stop wandering the corporate information backwaters. Intranet, you have a lot to learn from the phone and email systems.
