{"id":428,"date":"2007-12-23T00:24:27","date_gmt":"2007-12-23T07:24:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.elbeno.com\/blog\/?p=428"},"modified":"2007-12-23T00:24:27","modified_gmt":"2007-12-23T07:24:27","slug":"stairways-to-heaven","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.elbeno.com\/blog\/?p=428","title":{"rendered":"Stairways to Heaven"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, in the wake of the Beatnix&#8217; version of Stairway to Heaven, I discovered <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wfmu.org\/freeform\/2006\/05\/stairways_to_he.html\">Stairways to Heaven<\/a>. I&#8217;ve listened to quite a few of them (or at least the beginnings of quite a few) and so far they roughly fall into the following categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>People mucking about doing something vaguely related to Stairway. <em>Null points<\/em> to the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogfiles.wfmu.org\/KF\/2006\/05\/led\/Mary%20_Schneider_Yodels_-_Stairway_To_Heaven.mp3\">clip of the yodelling Australian lady<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Plain covers with almost-identical beginnings. One wonders why they bothered, as with so many cover versions.<\/li>\n<li>Novelty covers that are different and decent (the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogfiles.wfmu.org\/KF\/2006\/05\/led\/Beatnix_-_Stairway_to_Heaven.mp3\">Beatnix<\/a> are the best, and I think <a href=\"http:\/\/blogfiles.wfmu.org\/KF\/2006\/05\/led\/Little_Roger_and_the_Goosebumps_-_Stairway_To_Gilligans_Island.mp3\">Gilligan&#8217;s Island<\/a> also qualifies).<\/li>\n<li>Covers in a style that just doesn&#8217;t work. Sorry, but <a href=\"http:\/\/blogfiles.wfmu.org\/KF\/2006\/05\/led\/Kalocin_-_Stairway_to_Heaven.mp3\">chip music<\/a> really doesn&#8217;t cut it for this one.<\/li>\n<li>Covers that are actually quite well done, and probably to someone&#8217;s taste, but not mine. e.g. <a href=\"http:\/\/blogfiles.wfmu.org\/KF\/2006\/05\/led\/Dolly_Parton_-_Stairway_To_Heaven.mp3\">Dolly Parton<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/blogfiles.wfmu.org\/KF\/2006\/05\/led\/London_Symphony_Orchestra_-_Stairway_To_Heaven.mp3\">London Symphony Orchestra<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Covers that totally nail my musical prefs. <a href=\"http:\/\/blogfiles.wfmu.org\/KF\/2006\/05\/led\/Bellanova_-_Stairway_To_Heaven.mp3\">Bellanova<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/blogfiles.wfmu.org\/KF\/2006\/05\/led\/Jana_-_Stairway_To_Heaven.mp3\">Jana<\/a>, where have you been all my life?
